Joe Enns is a Canadian writer, painter, and fisheries biologist based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. His poetry has appeared in renowned literary magazines such as The Fiddlehead, FreeFall, and The Dalhousie Review, while his book reviews have been featured in The Malahat Review, The British Columbia Review, and Event Magazine. Joe's fiction has been shortlisted for The Malahat review's 2024 Novella Prize and FreeFall’s 2020 Prose and Poetry Contest As a self-taught oil painter, Joe draws inspiration from impressionism and disruptive realism, using loose and expressive brushstrokes to bring his subjects—ranging from portraits and figures to wildlife and landscapes—to life. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries across Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley, and the Okanagan, with a collection currently carried by the Nomad Gallery in White Rock, BC. With a BA in Creative Writing from Vancouver Island University and a BSc in Ecological Restoration from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Joe’s diverse expertise informs both his art and his written work, blending creativity, science, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
