Grant Colburn
Born in Wisconsin in 1966, Grant Colburn is an American composer, pianist and harpsichordist as well as rock musician. He studied harpsichord with Igor Kipnis and composition with Irwin Sonenfield. He is the author of six collections of baroque harpsichord music, and two concertos for harpsichord and strings. with another for recorder. Also music for recorder/flute with continuo and works for unaccompanied cello or viola da gamba, as well as songs for voice and continuo. Grant was the author of a feature article on period composition in the summer 2007 issue of Early Music America Magazine. He has also a contributed reviews and writings for Harpsichord and Fortepiano Magazine and Early Music America. A concert of Colburn's compositions was given at the 2007 Boston Early Music Festival. Аn article on his performing experiences while there titled, "A View from the Fringe of the Fringe." appeared in Harpsichord and Fortepiano Magazine, Volume 12, No.1. Grant Colburn is one of the founding members of Vox Saeculorum, a society of period composers. A more recent publication explores the music of Erik Satie as the inspiration for 3 Gymnopedies and 3 Gnossiennes for piano. In addition, Grant has written and recorded music for various rock groups and projects he has been a part of. He currently lives in Green Bay, WI with his wife and a menagerie of animals and can be heard playing for numerous churches, colleges and schools in the area.
