The author grew up in Northwest Indiana and returned back to his hometown of Valparaiso after completion of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. He then applied for and was accepted too the Indiana State Police where he served for twenty-eight years.While with the State Police he was assigned tp work for eight years in patrol and another eight years working undercover with motorcycle gangs At the completion of the undercover assignment he was promoted to the head of investigations for Northwest Indiana where he served until his retirement; The author then was elected Sheriff where he served eight years the two term maximum,
