Jameela Siddiqi is a London based journalist, lecturer and award-winning broadcaster. She read English at Makerere University, Kampala and International History at the London School of Economics. She is the only Asian female novelist to base her stories on Indian settler life in Uganda -- from the 1950's to the early 70's -- with a focus on Idi Amin's Asian Expulsion of 1972. A specialist in the history and theory of Indian classical music and poetry, Siddiqi has written widely on the subject and is a visiting lecturer for music audiences worldwide. She has also written and published numerous short stories on various themes as well as factual articles on music and social and current affairs. Her interests include the social history of Europe in the inter-war years and the work of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during World War Two. Her previous novel, "The Feast of the Nine Virgins" was published by Bogle L'Ouverture, London, 2001.
