Michael A Herr (not the guy who wrote "Dispatches") is a retired educator who has been writing since he retired in 2000. Having visited the Hawaiian islands for over 50 years, and having married a beautiful Hawaiian wahine, he chose to set all of his books in Hawaii. The first two (the Primo series) are set on Kauai back in the early 70's. They comprise a linked series of humorous/spooky short stories set primarily in/around a bar in the town of Kapa'a. His next series (The Old Queen books) takes place mostly on the Big Island of Hawaii. There the women of the Pono family try to keep the hiding place of Queen Ka'ahumanu's bones a secret. A fifth book in this series ("The Old Queen's Guardians") is available on Amazon.com. A sixth book ("The Old Queen and The King") is in process.
