G. Scott MacLeod
G. Scott MacLeod was born in Red Deer, Alberta and his family are of Scottish, Irish, English and Norse descent. MacLeod to moved to Montreal where he was educated in French and English. He holds a BFA in Studio Arts with a specialization in printmaking and an MA in Art Education from Concordia University. He is a critically acclaimed painter, photographer, musician, filmmaker, scriptwriter and graphic novelist. He is a fellow at The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico. His work has reflected social, political and historical themes with an aim to promote education and accessibility to art and culture. MacLeod is a member of The Quebec Writers’ Federation. He wrote a chapter based on his Berlin Cold War documentary, After the War with Hannelore (2012) in a book on memory work, A Heart of Wisdom: Life Writing as Empathetic Inquiry, (2012) Peter Lang Publishing, New York. He published and illustrated The Water of Life series (2020 – 2022), four graphic novels on the untold history of Canada, written by Irish storyteller Mike Burns. In 2019, he wrote and published a travel journal, 29 Days on the Reykjanes Peninsula – Iceland: One of the World’s Last Natural Wonders (2019), based on his 2017 Iceland SIM residency. He wrote and illustrated and published episode 1 Expedition Greenland - Solveig’s Strength and Audr’s Prosperity (2022) and episode 2 The Indigo Iona Saga and the Settlement of Iceland (2025).
