I serve on the Board of Directors for Prevent Child Abuse NY, and I organize Speak Out Rochester, which is a day for survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault to use their creativity to tell their stories and heal. Yes, I donate 50% of my cut from this book to PCANY. If another organization is promoting this as a fundraiser, the other organization will get 50% of my cut, and PCANY gets 50% of what's left over. People always ask me why I wrote a novel about child sex abuse, instead of writing a memoir. First, there are lots of CSA survivors who want to write memoirs of their experiences. I don't want to compete in a very cruel market with them. I wanted to write a story that was bigger than my own personal one. And I wanted to present child abuse and domestic violence as subjects worthy of literary art.
