Philip White was born in Newton Abbot, Devon and studied at King Edward VI School, Totnes before continuing his studies at Dartington College of Arts and the Royal Academy of Music, London. Originally a trumpeter, Philip was a keen composer from a very young age and majored in both composition and conducting when he went to London. On completing his studies in 1979 Philip built up a freelance career that saw him conduct various orchestras and choirs often in top concert halls (e.g. Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, London).
