Rob Fielding’s first Port Vale game was a home match against Lincoln City back in 1980. John McGrath’s side managed to lose 1-0, a result that, he claims, prepared him for life as a Vale fan. In the mid-1990’s, he was a recent graduate, without much money, based in Bristol. He created a Port Vale website called “There’s only one Vale fan in Bristol?” as a way of getting lift shares from fellow supporters based in the West Country. Over the years, that site evolved into onevalefan.co.uk (or OVF for short) a popular, award-winning Port Vale fan site. As OVF editor, he has been in an ideal position to chronicle the events of the extraordinary 2012-2013 season.
