This page has been created to bring light and clarity to the overwhelming truth of what really did happen to many native children in Canadian residential schools. In the 19th century all the way up until 1996 when the last of the residential schools was closed, these children were taken from their homes and forced by the Canadian government to live away from their families in a type of boarding school in order to "educate" them. Ernie Leon George's story is but one of hundreds of thousands of native children who were so sadly and unjustly a part of this genocide. Although you may not have commited the crime it was our ancestors that did and we must own this. My hope is that by educating people and giving those who were involved a chance to tell their story we may be able to heal and begin to mend the hearts of so many inocent people. I hope that this might inspire you to step out and love all of those around you regardless of their differences because after all we are one.
