About
Richard's Research and Ritin'

Richard is a genealogist, historian, researcher, and writer who lives in Northumberland County in the Northern Neck of Virginia. His family roots go back to the origins of the Northumberland settlement ca. 1645. He began researching his family history about forty years ago out of curiosity about his ancestors. He discovered that, surprisingly enough, there were many interesting stories concealed within the musty old courthouse records, just waiting to be revealed. He soon realized that it is not possible to have good genealogical research without including some history, and all good history includes some family information of a genealogical nature. After all, history is made up of the actions of individuals, acting alone or as part of a group, so all our families are part of history. Most of this never gets told because it seems mundane or boring and most people don't see a pattern to the facts that are scattered throughout the records, let alone take the time to pull them out, organize them, and relate them in a story-like fashion. There is some truth to the saying "truth is stranger than fiction." Actually, the truth is often more amazing than fiction and can exceed the wildest imagination. Just as people are the subject of fiction, they are also the subject of history. Richard is always researching new subjects, reviewing past research, and writing new material. Look forward to seeing the publication of new articles and books in the near future.
