At age twelve I rode my secondhand Schwinn over the rolling Ohio countryside to our small town library, hoping to find a new addition to their science fiction section. Over the next three years, and a new set of tires, I read every book. I also started a journal of ideas with fragments of stories; several that helped me ace an honors writing class in college a few years later. I still ride, though it's on a hi-tech mountain bike, and have enjoyed the long road traveled with marriage, kids, and career. My writing skills served me well to turn the usual boring business proposal into a vivid and interesting scene of what their investment could create. Those proposals propelled my career as I was given the resources and opportunity to lead interesting projects and travel to places I only dreamed of in my youth.
