Roy Bainton
Roy Bainton hails from Hull in East Yorkshire, but has lived in the ex-coalfields town of Mansfield since 1987. After 7 years in the Merchant Navy, after marriage in 1966, although always a writer, he experienced 32 jobs, everything from hospital porter, construction labourer, milkman, and eventually found his vocation in the music business, managing record stores and spending time working as an executive for Deutsche Grammophon, the German record label, where he promoted, among others, Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic. In the late 80s until becoming a full time writer in 1997, he spent his time on the road in sales and marketing. His work has appeared in a variety of media, including The Observer, BBC Radio, Sky TV, The New Statesman, Saga Magazine and many more. Prior to self-publishing at Lulu, he published various works on modern history via publishers such as Constable & Robinson of London and Mainstream of Edinburgh. He's happily married with 2 adult offspring.
