About
Shani Z. Nesmith
Shani Z. Nesmith is a children’s author and illustrator who creates stories designed to be shared, not rushed. Her books are written with one simple goal in mind: to turn reading into a meaningful experience between children and the adults who love them. Inspired by her late father’s lifelong encouragement to learn, write, create, and figure things out independently, Shani began writing stories that invite parents, caregivers, and educators to slow down and read aloud—sparking conversation, teaching gentle life lessons, and strengthening connection along the way. While her stories are accessible to young listeners, they are intentionally crafted for shared reading, where learning happens through togetherness. Through animal-led characters and warm, engaging storytelling, Shani explores themes such as kindness, manners, curiosity, and emotional awareness. Her books are especially suited for children ages three to eight, when imagination is thriving and adult guidance plays an essential role in understanding the world. Shani independently writes, illustrates, and publishes her work, blending creativity with modern tools to bring her stories to life. Her hardcover editions—available through Lulu—are thoughtfully produced as lasting additions to home libraries, classrooms, and reading spaces where stories are meant to be revisited and remembered.
