After serving an engineering apprenticeship and gaining some experience as a development engineer with a major automotive brake manufacturer, Ken Ryeland spent the next 20 years working in Africa, the Far East and the Middle East. After returning to the UK, he occupied various senior engineering posts within the motor and insurance industries before retiring in 2004.
