Introduction to the poet: AL-Amin Smith. First I’d like to say thank you for your time. Now as a child I always liked to express myself. As a matter of fact, articulating was one of the reasons I got in trouble alot in class. But as I got older, experiences in my life helped me build a foundation to support my reasoning and in many ways, share my heart. Ironically it wasn’t until I sustained my Brain Injury that I rediscovered my love for writing. I started in 2010, and mostly it was because of my frustrations that I began to take it seriously. Although I grew up in a broken home, my mother, along with my family, supported me as a child. Like almost everyone brought up in the “Hood”, in the 80’ s, there’s an ingrained understanding of life, and although urban black children aren’t monolithic we do have synchrony with each other. I ultimately would like for the readers to be moved by my words and to give them illustrated scenes of my life. I pray that occurs. Enjoy.
