THE STORY OF SCOTTISH SCOUTS JAMES MARR & NORMAN MOONEY AND HOW IT CHANGED THEIR LIVES TO BE SELECTED TO GO ON THE SHACKLETON-ROWETT EXPEDITION TO ANTARCTICA BACK IN 1921
So, who were Shackleton’s Scouts? Two Scottish Patrol Leaders personally chosen from around 1,700 Scouts by Sir Ernest Shackleton - James William Slesser Marr of the 1st City of Aberdeen Scout Troop and Norman Erlend Mooney of the 2nd Orkney Scout Troop.
Using transcripts of old newspaper articles, archive personal letters, a variety of heritage photographs and many other source reference materials this book catalogues the lives of both Marr and Mooney.
From their time in the Scouts, to their selection for the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition, to the Second World War and beyond. It then goes on to chart the incredible legacy left to Scouting by these two fascinating individuals.
