Financial expert Alex Parker is a man of fixed and orderly habits – too fixed and orderly, he sometimes thinks. Then his ex-boss and mentor is killed in a dreadful plane crash, and he agrees to take over management of the finances of two of his former clients, Suzanne Greenwood and Laura Collins. Alex finds it liberating to get to know these very unorthodox but highly intelligent and likeable women, both high-end professional dominatrices, secure in the knowledge that he isn’t interested in the sort of services they provide. But they unsettle Alex despite himself. He doesn’t realize it yet but just by the small insight into their twilight world getting to know them has given him he’s already opened Pandora’s Box. As a result, he becomes markedly less buttoned-up than he’d been, more at ease with himself and comfortable in his own skin. One of Alex’s unwritten rules has always been to keep a clear line between the professional and personal in his work. This is not a problem with Suzanne and Laura but proves to be with one of his other clients, a beautiful and talented young fashion designer called Marianne Lewis. When Marianne tells Alex she’s extremely attracted to him he loses sight of that unwritten rule of his and jumps at the opportunity of starting a relationship with her. But he quickly regrets his impulsive actions and ends the relationship almost before it’s begun, causing Marianne a great deal of distress. It is only a matter of time before Alex comes to his senses, though. “I love you” is the inscription on Pandora's Box, you see. And he’s as madly in love with Marianne as she is with him. As it turns out Suzanne and Laura also play an important part in making this happy ending a reality.
