Over a thousand years ago, Native Americans inhabited the banks of the creek which stretched through Madison County.
A mere two centuries ago, the creek came to be called Runnels Creek. Named for the first group of settlers who stopped on their way to some distant place and decided instead to make the banks of the creek their home.
Since then the people of Madison County have found the creek to be a source of food, refuge, and solace, a place to rest, a place to think through their problems, a place to find answers to their troubles.
Such is the case for Mrs. Dana Sumpner-Reardon, a widow, whose husband Beau, has recently died under mysterious circumstances. Dana visits the creek to ponder how her life has come to this point and what does the future hold for her and Beau's daughter, Alley.
