It was a rainy night, 18 years ago, when Noor’s mother was found dead. No arrests. No answers. Only silence. Now, after her estranged father dies suddenly, Noor returns to the home she had once fled and discovers it unchanged, trapped in the grip of grief and secrets. Hidden in an old Quran is a letter from her mother — one she was never supposed to come across. As Noor traces a buried history of ephemeral power, destructive magic, and deeply woven family secrets, she discovers it’s no accident this haunting yet powerful force left her in the dark. Someone powerful. Someone still watching. Each rose in her mother’s garden, she knows, holds a memory. And with each silence Noor uncovers, she gets ever closer to the voice that was taken from her. But truth comes at a cost. And some will kill to keep it buried. The Weight Beneath the Roses is a beautifully written psychological mystery of quiet crime, abuse—both personal and generational—and the war of one woman to find justice for her daughters.
