The Armory Asylum is a visual installation arising from my research on narrative, alchemy, postmodern magic, and personal myth. The context of the work investigates what is defined as alive and postulates that biologically defined non-living organisms are, in fact, animate and are thus “alive.” This theory is based on the fact that they adapt to their environment as well as record that adaptive process within their own structure. The Armory Asylum is an umbrella term for the installation and event that includes three major discursive extensions. There is The Terrarium, The Souvenir Book and the actual Event surrounding The Armory Asylum. . Each extension of The Armory Asylum can be its own work, but it will forever be tied to a reciprocal conversation with its other parts.
