The Holy Exchange of St. Francis and His Sons with Lady Poverty

ByAnonymous

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
St. Francis of Assisi always spoke lovingly and eloquently about his “Lady Poverty”, the spouse that accompanied him throughout his earthly voyage. Poverty, by which he put aside all earthly possessions to devote himself entirely to heavenly things, was his dearest possession, and his followers strove to love her as much as he did. This little story, written by one of his followers only a few months after his death, describes an allegorical journey of St. Francis as he seeks for his Lady Poverty and the riches she can offer. Lady Poverty herself speaks at length about her journey through eternity, her deep love for Christ and His adoption of her when He came to earth, and St. Francis's profound devotion. Many salutary warnings and beautiful stories came out regarding the brethren and their lady. Presented here with its original Latin as well as an English translation, this work, one of the great medieval allegories, can serve as a boundless source of Franciscan riches. This allegory is fascinating and profound, and deserves a much higher place in Western literature and spiritual devotion. Praise be to Christ the King!
