Why restless, why cast down?

A setting of a 1760 metrical version of Psalm 42 'As pants the hart for cooling streams', commissioned by Catherine Clover for first performance and recording by the Choir of New College directed by Robert Quinney, to be featured on the soundtrack for the novel The Templar's Garden. This hymn may also be sung congregationally to the setting of verse 1 with the optional descant; in its complete version the hymn incorporates verses for Decani and Cantoris, for SATB soloists, and for both lower and then upper voices.
