This book, introduced as part of the Lost Literature project at www.lostliterature.com brings together two of Aphra Behns latest works. First published a year before her death in 1688, 'Oroonoko' is perhaps one of the earliest anti-slavery works produced, and had a huge impact, though largely after Behns death. It is arguably one of the very first novels in the English language and interestingly is written by a woman who is also arguably one of the first females to make a living by writing. The story was later converted to a play.
Coupled with Oroonoko is the tale of a corrupt courtly society - 'The Fair Jilt'. An entertaining read, which comments much on contemporary society and attitudes, and was published at the same time as 'Oroonoko'.
