A Scandal in Bohemia was the first short story of Sherlock Holmes, published in English by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in 1892, along with other eleven tales, in the book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Within the Holmesian Canon, the story of A Scandal in Bohemia is extremely important because it determines the emergence of Sherlock Holmes' great obsession, caused by the only villain who has been able to defeat him, known as Irene Adler or Mrs. Irene Norton. At the beginning of this story, the narrator (Dr. Watson) is somewhat confused. On the one hand, he implicitly recognizes that there is certain attraction between Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler, and on the other hand, he does not believe that the cold and reckless detective, who suffers from emotional deficiencies, is capable of loving a woman, and therefore, Sherlock Holmes defined her as the woman, without being clear about whether she is just a special or unusual woman in the eyes of the troublesome detective, or if she is considered as his woman. The story of A Scandal in Bohemia is presented in this document, which introduces Irene Adler and marks the beginning of a strange sentimental relationship between Sherlock Holmes and this dangerous criminal.
