Charged with his murder were James Fletcher and Penelia “Penny” Fletcher, an American couple whose case would place Saint Vincent and the Grenadines under intense international scrutiny. The trial drew powerful lawyers, major American media attention, diplomatic concern, allegations of corruption, and heated public debate over class, sovereignty, tourism, press power, and the limits of circumstantial evidence.
