Finding My Fins

It was seconds after opening my eyes lazily in my lie-in when an acrid fishy smell offended me and caused me vertigo. I cursed the hypersensitivity that made my olfactory receptors easily irritated by the odor of tertiary amines and gave me abrupt bouts of nausea and rhinorrhea, which turned the appearance of my nose into an artificial one, comparable to that of a clown’s costume. The irritated nose turned as hyperfunctional as that of a hunting hound. As powerful as a psychotropic drug, the fishy smell clamored me to wake up, and coerced me to waddle and wobble towards the toilet where I washed up so that the water, sprayed from the nozzle, would wash away this stink. Irrespective of the copious bathing, my body remained hypnotized and the strong smell turned my senses numb. ....
