My first book, The Prepared Mind of a Leader, was published in 2006 and was written to help leaders face up to the reality of Schumpeter's "Creative Destruction." That said, the world has become more complex and dynamic in the intervening twenty years and the description of "wicked" systems is a more fitting way to describe the challenges that leaders at all levels face today. Today's challenges have constantly changing conditions, stakeholders who even disagree about the definition of the challenge, and unclear boundaries and "rules of the game." Today's challenges are not solved once and for all -- they must be navigated in real time.
