The Seventh Understudy A dark romance of obsession and control. Lena has spent ten years auditioning for roles she never gets. At thirty-one, she is talented, exhausted, and running out of time. So when legendary director Adrian Voss offers her a position as his personal assistant, complete with room and board and the promise of a role in his comeback film, she says yes before she can change her mind. Adrian has not made a film in seven years. He lives in a secluded house in the mountains, surrounded by locked doors, locked drawers, and secrets. He tells Lena she is perfect. He tells her she is the one he has been waiting for. He tells her he loves her. He told the same thing to the six women before her. As Lena is drawn deeper into Adrian's world, she begins to see the truth. The photographs on the walls. The cottages in the garden. The graveyard in the clearing. And the seventh stone, bearing no name. She is not the first woman he has chosen. And if she stays, she will not be the last. The Seventh Understudy is a dark romance about obsession, performance, and the difference between being seen and being owned.
