Racism in America has a root and in order to right wrongs, minds must be open and willing to hear the painful parts of the birth of racism, segregation, and bigotry in the South. In spite of the importance of acknowledging our past to repair the damage done by these social constructs, it has been challenging being honest about what has occurred and what is occurring on a broad scale. The Dirty South does exactly that.
The Dirty South takes a deep dive into the ugly history of racism in Lamar County, both past and present. The egregious acts outlined illustrate how racism today is a continuation of past racism, so that solid solutions can be found to promote a healthier society.
