Out of the ashes is a story about the survival of child abuse and domestic violence. This story is based on the life of the auther and follows the chain of events down four generations. The following is a brief excerpt:
At the house on Iowa Street we were beaten on a daily basis. My father called it training. On the walls were holes of all shapes and sizes. My father banged our heads against the stucco until it caved in and permanently imprinted the shape of our heads. These holes were usually bloodstained … none of us were exempt. Each of us had our own special print of our own work of art, as he put it. Come take this journey and learn how you can prevent and rescue the next victim of this horrific crime.
