In 2020, Compassion Prison Project (CPP) embarked on a mission to teach people in prison about the effects that childhood trauma had on their development. We knew that this knowledge would help them understand why they had made the choices they did and ended up in prison. It would also help them begin the work of healing from that trauma. From there, we had to expand our mission into one of transforming all prisons into centers of healing and rehabilitation. From the beginning, we always knew that we were there to provide information and guidance, but it was the people doing the work in prison that would be the catalyst for meaningful change in the prison system. Their work would bring healing and restoration to the communities from which these individuals came and, more importantly, to which they would return. This project is directly in line with the kind of work we want to promote in every prison. We want to support those individuals who have embraced the idea of transforming themselves and sharing their healing with the world. Crisis is the culmination of the journey of remarkable men who faced the unpleasantness of their pasts and discovered the causes of their anger and developed an unshakeable bond though their vulnerability and courage. CPP has provided this vehicle to amplify the voice of these remarkable men as they share their journey with you through their artwork, poetry, and words of transformation and wisdom.
