Exciting, fast moving and original. This is a story about a young Scotsman William Watford who came to America as a stowaway in the early 1700s. His son became a notable frontiersman and Revolutionary War hero and eventually settled in South Alabama. The story resumes at the close of the Civil War when Otis, William's descendant, defies the order for Confederate soldiers to surrender and forfeit their weapons. Now a renegade he begins the long journey home to the family farm in South Alabama. The risks and hardships, however, are unexpectedly compounded. Union soldiers posted rewards for renegades and threatened severe punishment for those found aiding and abetting the same. Still in gray, Captain Otis' trip home became far more perilous.
