The Swiss Guard

From the 15th century to the present, the Swiss Guard has maintained a reputation for discipline and steadiness in both peacetime service and foreign campaigning as personal guards of the kings of France and bodyguards protecting the Pope in Rome. Over those centuries, many young Swiss men, who were a part of the Swiss Guard, have lost their lives performing their duty. This story is one of those tragic occurrences in history as two brothers, Daniel and Martin, along with nine hundred other Swiss Guards, have been charged to protect the King of France. The date is August 10, 1792, the beginning of the French Revolution. For most of the brave young men, it is the end. But for very few, it's a long road home.
