In my debut novel, 'The Certainty Trap', I invite readers to step into the life of Daniel Okoro, a man who prides himself on never making a decision by accident. My story begins when Daniel’s carefully constructed existence—defined by labelled folders and precise routines—is interrupted by a series of three rhythmic, unexplained knocks at his door. This moment serves as the catalyst for a journey that forces Daniel to confront the quiet, comfortable cage he has built for himself through his own rigid certainty. Through Daniel's encounters with enigmatic characters like the Collector and a professor who remembers events Daniel has long forgotten, I wanted to explore the dangerous ways we let "common sense" and established plans stop us from seeing the world as it truly is. I wrote this book for anyone who has ever felt so confident in their own logic that they missed the unexpected opportunities knocking at their own door. My goal with this novel was not to provide a traditional mystery with easy, linear answers, but rather to craft an invitation for the reader to hold their own convictions a little more loosely. By observing Daniel’s struggle to find proof versus his need to ask better questions, I hope to encourage my readers to embrace the "space after certainty" and remain curious about the things in life that do not resolve cleanly. To help facilitate these conversations, I have included a Reader’s Discussion Guide at the end of the book, which I hope will provide a meaningful space for you to reflect on your own relationship with belief, memory, and the stories we tell ourselves.
