School had just let out for the summer. And fourteen-year-old Charlie Brady had a problem. His dad had just backed out on a father-son camping trip with him. Charlie had been looking forward to this trip and all the things his dad, a real outdoorsman, could teach him. Dad always had time for Charlie's little sister's activities, but never seemed to find time for Charlie. Charlie lived in Sugar Hill, a small town in the Northern Rocky Mountains, where there was an abundance of outdoor activities- camping, fishing, and hiking in the mountains. But there was one outdoor place the local people avoided. This was Sigazee Peak, an eerie cloud-capped mountain that rose to the west of Sugar Hill. Many people who had ventured up on the mountain had disappeared without a trace, or been scared off the mountain by something they sensed but couldn't describe. People believed there was some mysterious danger on the mountain, and nobody had climbed it for years. Out of his disappointment, Charlie got an idea. Something that would make him a local hero, and finally get his dad's attention. He'd climb to the top of Sigazee Peak and prove there was no secret power up there that swallowed people up. He and his best friend, Matt, set out on an adventure to secretly climb the peak. They met many unexpected dangers, and they found the secrets hidden by Sigazee Peak. And the experience changed Charlie's life forever. This story, told in Charlie's own words, was set in the year 1978, in a simpler time before kids had the internet and cell phones to help them solve problems.
