Chiapas Through the Obsidian Mirror

ByClayton Merrell

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
These photographs were taken in Chiapas during January of 2005. I carried a small circle of polished black obsidian as I traveled, photographing the reflections on its surface. According to some researchers, the Mayans believed that obsidian mirrors such as this were portals of a sort; that the smoky images seen in them were images of the underworld. All proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to the Foundation for International Community Assistance, a program that gives financial support to women in Central America.
