The story of Walter Gunn’s life from his birth, through his formative years growing up with his parents and two sisters in 1920’s London,. His first ever holiday, leaving school at fourteen to join his father working and the roundabout fashion of how Walter ended up joining the Army just before his eighteenth birthday.
Following his fledgling Army career Walter finds himself as part of the British Expeditionary Force sent to France at the outbreak of war in September 1939, where he and the rest of the BEF are forced to endure the harsh winter weather, the boredom of the phony war and the increasing belief that the top brass don’t know what they’re doing.
Culminating in the opening salvo’s of the German Blitzkrieg of May 1940 where the British forces are suddenly rapidly retreating, Walter finds himself volunteered for that fateful mission which is the beginning of ‘Gunn’.
This is the second book in the Walter Gunn series and is a prequel to the successful ‘Gunn’ which chronologically follows this story.
