Here are the memories and fantasies of an 8-year-old farm boy who loved to sing with Lesley Gore, play with Barbie, pour over encyclopedias, make turkeys shout, turn tractors into spaceships and do the jitterbug to any Andrews Sisters song. More than any of these, though, he loved to be with his Grampa. Ride with the two of them one spring day in 1964 as they roll up and down the country roads of Michiana to say goodbye to Grampa’s crazy old customers and oddball friends—as well as to each other.
