This is the debut book by David Howsam. With this collection of visionary and poetic stories the author attempts to construct a small visionary universe of signs and symbols that represents our own in much the same way Paul Klee does in painting.
The stories are loaded with philosophic, poetic and visionary images that the author hopes will open a wider canvas than is immediately apparent.
David Howsam cites as his major influences: William Burroughs, William Blake, Cormac McCarthy, Jean Genet, Smauel Beckett, James Joyce, Rimbaud and the painters Paul Klee and Jackson Pollock. The music of Bill Laswell, Brian Eno and Harold Budd have also influenced the images in the book.
With this Small Collection of Signs David Howsam hopes to make visible the deep mythic structures that underpin our societies.
