Suppose the New York Mets had made the post-season and were favored to win it all. Suppose their team plane crashes and they never get the chance. And suppose Jimmy Scott and Lyman Gaye, the two players who were not on the flight, had to deal with the aftermath. The Sixth Game follows Jimmy's vow to visit the families of every victim at the expense of his relationship with his own family. Jimmy's vow becomes an obsession. He turns away from his wife, children and parents, and avoids dealing with his survivor guilt. After Lyman and Jimmy travel to the Ohio crash site, it takes the commitment of Jimmy's wife and Lyman's father to bring them both back home.
