WHY 6?
When we observe the basic fabric of our universe — atoms, electrons, protons, neutrons, quarks, leptons, etc. — we see that numbers 2, 3 and 6 are omnipresent. The same goes for geometry, for the structure of prime numbers and for the natural world, down to our own DNA.
Let’s take a long, hard look at base-10. You could call it “the next inconvenient truth.” Just think about it: You can easily divide a dozen by either 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12, but 10 objects can only be divided by 2, 5 and 10. Therefore, when dividing 10, 100 or 1000 by 3, 6 or 12, we obtain odd results with endless series of .333 or .666. In arithmetic’s, besides 2, divisions by multiples of 3 remain the most important, being the most frequently used.
On the other hand, 5 shows up less frequently, with one notable exception: human extremities. This begs the question: Have we held on to base-10 for all this time simply because of our own morphology? There lies the main difference between 2 × 3 and 2 × 5 for a base system, one has a universal dimension, while the other remains anthropomorphic.
The questions Denis Eugene Robert asks are simple, yet radical: If 2, 3 and 6 are foundational in our interpretations of the universe, wouldn’t it be more logical and, especially, more effective to use 6 as a base instead of 10? What if our basic mathematical system could finally be aligned with Nature? Could that change the way we see it, think about it, and act upon it?
His quest for a universal language — one that is in harmony with our basic observations — has driven Denis Eugene Robert for more than half a century. Persistently, he has probed the domains of physics, chemistry, biology, geometry, and mathematics.
His conclusion is simple: The advantages of base-6 by far exceed those of any other bases, including, by the same token, the fact that a form of universal unity and coherence is thus restored.
This has led him, among other things, to develop a different ratio for π based on the radius instead of the diameter, to discover a novel structure for prime numbers, and to create specific symbols and names for a revolutionary new base.
