Who were the Wedds who emigrated from Cambridgeshire, England, around 1850, and became pioneering families in the distant colony of Victoria Australia? Why did they leave home, and what sort of life did they make in Australia? This book centers on Ebenezer Wedd (1789-1852), his wife Mary Stockbridge (1790-1854) and the unmarried children they took to Melbourne, Victoria from Melbourn, Cambridgeshire. The unmarried adult women were soon married, and started families of their own. It tells what we know about the life of William Stockbridge Wedd (1817-1890) and his second wife, Eliza Sibley (1833-1888), who settled in Cheltenham, south of Melbourne. Similarly, the records the two marriages of Peter Stockbridge Wedd (1827-1893) to Rebecca McKenzie (1831-1858) and Eliza Moore (1833-1912). The final chapter is a survey of the first Wedds to settle in the other colonies and territories.
