This is the first full translation into English of the complete text of Dr. Hugo Eckener’s 1949 book, “Im Zeppelin über Länder und Meere.”
Of the book he writes:
“In this book of memoirs, it is my intention to focus solely on the flights of the Zeppelins between the two World Wars and the events and experiences associated with them. It does so for two reasons: firstly, the description of these famous, globe-spanning, pioneering flights may perhaps contribute to the ongoing debate about whether the airship still has a role to play in commercial air services today, and secondly, the preparation and the conduct of these flights is so closely linked to human and political events in a critical period of enormous political upheaval, that they have an enduring historical significance, at least for us Germans, and are therefore worthy of recording for posterity.”
