Dr. Julio Antonio del Marmol is on his way back from Cuba to investigate concerning rumors about a terrorist attack planned for US soil. He gains a few more clues, but first he must stop a plot to assassinate the new President of Mexico and his entire family. His team is able to neutralize that threat, and his attention is devoted entirely to the terrorist plot. Unfortunately, the Administration at that time does not take the threat seriously, and while the new President of the United States simply moves too slowly and cautiously. Finally, del Marmol locates the information needed to get the new Administration moving to stop the plot, but unfortunately his enemies are hot on his trail and he is attacked publicly in a grocery store’s parking lot. He is nearly killed and as a result placed in a medically induced coma. By the time he is able to communicate that the information taken was only a decoy, and where the real intelligence is located, it is too late to stop the attacks. Even then, the team knows who—but how remains a critical, elusive detail that would still allow them to prevent the attacks. A large amount of explosives is needed, but satellite surveillance has not observed the kind of movement for the materials needed. Yaneba makes a passing comment which provided Dr. del Marmol the intuition of what the real plan is. They race back to the United States to do what they can to stop it. Hernesto even goes so far to violate protocol and purchases a ticket on United Flight 93. While they are able to stop some of the flights from taking off, four make it up, resulting in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
