Beneath Missouri's Lakes

For the many families displaced by dam building their loss could not be quantified in monetary form; they lost their sense of place. The lost communities beneath the lake serve as a reminder that every piece of progress carries a cost; often equating at a much higher price than consented for (Sojourner’s Compass, 2025). The project shows us how opportunity and investment can transform a nation; racial exclusivity is a reminder of how the current social programs often reinforce said inequalities they promised to overcome. When tools of justice are available but selectively distributed, we see fulfilled dreams of the oppressors rather than those originally promised.
