From Birr to Bucks

This student-written graphic novel tells the story of a boy who gets a job at a local coffee shop, only to be asked the question, "Do you sell fair trade coffee?" Not knowing the answer, he begins a quest that takes him to Ethiopia. At the same time, the reader meets a coffee farming family in Ethiopia as they experience a crippling drought. The original story is written and illustrated by a 10th grade student who studied conflict resources, the coffee supply chain, and storytelling in her high school science, social studies, and language arts classes in Muscatine, Iowa.
