Our goal is to facilitate community autonomy through interventions that
enable social interactions within the public realm. It is our belief that through
collective action and social capital, the residents of the Lower Ninth Ward will be
able to circumvent barriers to resources and redevelopment.
As placemakers we recognize our limited ability to determine policy and
capital investments. We suggest our role as designers is to image the physical
means bywhich a neighborhood can build community equity and autonomy. This
will be accomplished through design proposals that would activate the public
realm, allowing opportunities for concentrations of cooperative social behaviour
and entrepenurial investment to occur.
