Poems written about the heart of Idaho's Salmon River wildfire country. The author and poet, F.A. Loomis, spent several years serving the U.S. Forest Service in central Idaho during the 1970s, taking his life of solitude and reflection as seriously as a Trappist monk. These poems have a twist of all the elements that make up lookout life: vigilance during lightning weather, peace between storms, the continuous awareness of alpine beauty, boredom and near insanity when visitors are lacking, great insights that come with focus, and pleasure when mountain life surprises.
