Part Two follows the Ghost after the Clock Tower. The well under the tower answers the fight by building a Root Walker out of grave-dirt, bone, and living root. Father Time does not save them so much as finish the thing: he ages the Walker’s core faster than the earth can feed it, then tells the Ghost the shed is still waiting.
In that shed the Ghost takes a pocket watch with no numbers and no hands — black smoke and a pulsing light behind the glass. A vision shows him how the Undertaker died in that same room, dragged down the well. Behind the wall is a hidden bay and a dead Buick Super 8. The Ghost puts his hands on the hood and raises it as Royal Purple: candy-violet paint, sawblade chrome, 4,200 horsepower running on plasma instead of gas.
He drives it first to the Shop-Stop. The same three junkies are still there. He gives them the cemetery the way he lived it, and in return he steals the memory underneath their fear: Jest-Rot and Eco Slime stood in a garage before any of this started and pointed those men at him. That garage is the chop shop on the industrial edge of town. The Ghost and Death Fog wreck it. The foreman talks. The Twins went back under the city, off the old transit lines, into a sealed place they call Tunnel Thirteen, under the old Fourth Street station.
On the way there the city does not stay empty. Red Rose hits him for walking through her ground the same week her water and soil started going wrong — sick wells, things born wrong. She marks him, then reads the color in him and decides he is not the poison. Hardly drops out of the dark in the middle of that fight and treats both of them as toys, redirecting their strikes into each other until Death Fog catches her and the game collapses into a tantrum. Red Rose stops the Ghost from putting a whip through a child-shaped thing on the pavement. After that, two hunts run the same streets: the Ghost and Death Fog toward the tunnel, Red Rose and Hardly behind them, using each other because their interests overlap, not because anyone trusts anyone.
They do not reach the tunnel clean. In an overgrown park the bill from the cemetery comes back as Grave-Children and a swarm of small Root Walkers. Crystal and Lena — two of the people who watched Fred die and were told they were next — do not survive it. The Ghost freezes on the same tilt of a child’s head he remembers from the grave. Red Rose freezes on wood and grave-dirt because whatever she is under the human skin came out of the same soil.
